Today was ET practical. I suppose I was a bit overconfident in the days leading up to it, and sure enough, it came back to bite me. I was just staring at the sheet blankly for my fifteen minutes of preperation, wondering where the hell my pitching brain cells flew off to. And throat decided not to work too well that day, so any attempts at singing it out flopped.



HOWEVER, during the space of 20 seconds in which the person before me (Mandric) and I passed each other in the doorway, I had thought up a plan! :D (as I am wont to do in times of extreme oh-shit distress)



K: *does best impression of cat bringing up a hairball* *pastes Look of Misery and DoomTM on face* *pretends to have fishbone stuck in throat*



Teacher: Oh dear :o



But in the end he gave me the 2 hardest questions (on purpose!) despite my cussing. Halfway through I just gave up and rapped out the rest of the bars. Felt really shitty after that but he said he'd make allowances for giving me the hard ones (and my brilliant acting skills, too, I'm sure:D)



Therefore: Rapping + 60% there pitching + sympathy marks = Not doing as badly as I thought I would :DDD



Marks were upon 60 instead of a 100, which was good cos when he told me my score I nearly had a heart attack. Not too sad with my marks, pleased now that I have another marks-mongering skill up my sleeve.



I managed to scrape a few marks off KEYS as well. We got all these pieces and the teacher said we had to do improvisations for them. I picked the one I liked best and practiced like mad at it (it still sucked even the day before) and only found out a while before my turn that she would choose the piece we were to utterly mutiliateimprov on.



Went in and when she told me to do improv on another piece (which happened to be the one I hated the most) I turned on the chibi-eyes, put on the most spastic expression and a super loud "HAAAAAAAAAAH?????? BUT I DIDN'T PREPARE THAT ONE DD;"



She made me play it through and after considering my work 5 seconds after I blundered through it she asked what I did prepare, which was a fatal mistake! It gave me a loophole in which I could re-implement my original plan! (my piece still sucked, but I learned a new skill that day :D)

Only one week of school left! After that, there'll not be much stuff to do......I already feel kinda emptylike my soul thinking about how our project, after next week, will be put on the shelf and probably never looked at again until we start compiling portfolios. I've gotten rather attached to it, despite its glaring flaws, and it'll be weird not nagging and people to "DO THIS/THAT LIKE THAT/THIS YOU *%#&^*!!!".



Second year looks like a a fun one (even though there'll definitely be more *gasp* presentations D:), and I feel a bit more sure of what I can do, now that I'm startin to make more slaves contacts in class.



Now all I need to do is finish my MIDI writeup. Which I bloody wish I'd done at school today. Supposed to go sorta-detaily about what you used to make it, and I can't remember what I used since I had about a million channels with different synths. Which all served to create a rather.....er, unique kind of song. Seriously, I think it's the most unique of unique :D I'll try and make it an MP3, since it's just begging to have funny stick people doing funny things while it plays.



Today had CRS test. Picked the easiest topic, which happened to be about premarital sex. "Premarital sex is wrong. If you do it, you are a bad person. The End" is basically what I handed it. Of course, it had a lot of pretty words in it to distract whoever's marking it cos long pretty words can make anyone sound clever. After that went to Novena to have Pepper Lunch cos MP had coupons.



Yummy food there. I think they added something extra to the food, cos right after that I felt inspired to start singing every song I could think of in a heavy-metal voice. After that we went to Haagen Daaz but since I was still running on the beef and rice I had some tea there (jolly good, it was!), and that made it even worse: we both ended up sitting in the corner of the place singing metal-sounding songs (very badly) and getting funny looks from the staff and customers. We also tried writing lyrics, but they all ended up talking about apple pie, one way or the other.

Throat still hurts a bit after all that gravelly singing, but it was fun. After that went back to school and wandered around the studios distracting hardworking people who were trying to do work. Did some jamming after they left. I think I'm improving a little with jazzy stuff. Just smother everything in 6s and 7s and 9s and no one will ever notice the difference.

Woohoo! I wrote lyrics today! And I even managed to work wordplay in, aren't I clever!!!!!!! :DDDDDD even though I stole the chord progressions from about 5 other songs



Quite happy now. At least I have time to work on it so it'll be really good when I get down to grabbing people to play for me. This time I think I'd rather be the one sitting behind the mixer. Less pressure to play perfectly in time, and I can shout at the idiots who keep making mistakes :DDDDD



Originally wasn't going to go to school, but I did cos I'm kiasu like that. Didn't do much, only had a last listen-hear to our REMT. It's a lot better than I thought it'd be. However, it's also a bit worse in some areas than I thought it'd be. e.g. the shitty musicality T.T Teacher's words, not mine.



Got home 2 hours ago, and spent all that time at the piano hammering out the basic stuff I'm gonna keep in my new project. Hopefully this time I'll actually get to finish it. None of my sideprojects ever seem to meet the finish line.



I like Death Note. It has an intelligent storyline, pretty choral music in the background, and non-shitty animation. I heard the manga is even better, must find an English version somewhere.

Today I managed to finish my MIDI, and have decided that, yes, this is what I'm handing in. I was a bit worried when I was 70% of it through about doing this....unique...type of song, but now that I've had a few listens around and a coupla comments on my stuff, I don't feel too stressed as I was before :) Trying to move away from the emo genre. Rock would be fun to do next, and would require lots of "intense research on the computer", so I probably won't do much Real-Life stuff during the holidays.



There isn't any school tomorrow, since we're done with MUST (for this year) and ACTS (for good!). Gonna try and work on REMT more, I want to get a good grade for it. After sacrificing holiday time, eyesight, and the lifespan of probably a thousand hairs (they're still their normal sorta-brownish-blackish colour, don't see any grey yet so that's good), I think IWE deserve an A. >:D Joking, of course, if there's anything wrong with our mix still, now is the time to fix it.



Our teacher said our piece lacks a strong bass, and so it sounds rather hollow like my soul. He also said that musically, it's kinda shitty so that was really Inferiority Complex MAX :( But he said he liked our drums, especially the snare (which I did not recognize and thought was a woodblock and so EQed accordingly), and overall sound (yay for MP!). At least that sounds like there is some hope. :)

80%? I don't wanna be an uke DDD: But at least I get to be pretty!

Was playing piano for the afternoon service people today, so got to sleep in a bit. Teacher freaked me out yesterday cos it seems my programme for the exam lacks a real Romantic piece. And if my current list ain't approved, that'll equal lots of speed-learning and sleepness nights, and probably won't sound as good as the other stuff, which I've been playing for 2 years or so. My new friend is a Song Without Words, and it's really fast, and sounds like Phantom of the Opera.



Surviving by sight-reading through it. It's not hard to play the notes, it's just gonna be hard getting it up to speed. The entire page is black! Left hand consists of running up and down in broken chords, and while it's a bit to play some parts, I'm grateful it isn't something worse. Like all the jumping chords in some of Chopin's stuff. That's damn hard to play! ><



Also working on Fly Me To The Moon. Right now it seems pretty ok....I'm trying to get the bass part ingrained in my head so I don't have to expend any brain cells wondering if I'm pressing the right thing and can therefore concentrate on making the right hand more pretty. I don't dare touch Imagine anymore, as teacher said I'm overdoing the "expand on it" part.



Tomorrow is the die-die-must-finish for REMT. We still have the last 10% left to even out, then we sit back, relax, and hope to survive. I'm a bit worried on how it'll compare to everyone else's stuff, cos there are lots of really talented people in class. I think for my next assignment I should try a different genre, cos I don't want to write Emopop forever. Need to try and group with different people as well, it'll be an interesting experience :)



Youtube seems to be broken today. The stupid red line won't move, and I can't watch any Death Note because of it >:(

I just spent over 12 hours at school today. Super tired. More so especially since I got about 5 hours of sleep last night. Yesterday family and I went to see Il Divo. Everything was really good, the singing especially, and they managed to incorporate rock into popera, making it more like rockera. The only thing that was a bit wince-worthy was the mixing at the start. They seemed a little too bass-happy, which is ok for metal and pure rock, but not when you have a string ensemble and woodwinds and all sorts of airy treble instruments. It cleared up around the third song or so, and the rest of the concert was good. The guys were really funny when they were bantering between the songs, and the funniest part was when one of them forgot his lyrics and had to start it again. No one seemed to mind too much, and it only happened 2 times.



Since that was a night concert, it finished really late, and I got home around 10. Used the internet till 1 in the morning, cos I'm an internet-addict, never mind that class started at 8 today. Was thinking of cutting but didn't cos I'm too guai. No one was really paying much attention in class anyway so spent the time studying. After lessons everyone migrated to the computer rooms to do more studying. By that time I was sick of looking at the stupid book, so spent time playing out showtunes and stuff on the keyboard with MP. Managed to have fun jamming session.



Test was delayed because the class using the place before us was really slow, so it was pushed back an hour. Managed to get our studio booking time extended all the way till 8! Finished test at breakneck speed and zoomed up to chope the studio. Had trouble fixing the DI box up, and we wasted quite a bit of time. Managed to get it running eventually, and MP did the honour of adding keyboard pads and her solo. The next portion was spent giving last minute guitar tuition to one of our classmates. He managed to make it much nicer than the crap we did last week, and it now sounds like one of the nicest parts of the song ^o^



Last thing we did today was the singing part. Our singer had a bit of trouble since she was recovering from the flu, and she wasn't entirely used to singing in G, but we managed to get a pretty good recording. And yay for EQing!



Our last recording session is on Monday, the day before the deadline. Probably gonna add a few more pads to beef some bits up, and possibly some harmonizing bits for the singing. Monday is also KEYS test day. Haven't practiced the improv part, and I didnt know we had to apply modulation!!!! D:



Now that the test is over, we have no more ACTS, or Theory, for that matter......which means that THURSDAY IS NO SCHOOL!!!!!!

I'm bored. Nothing much interesting to write about. Except for school of course, but I've already geekily kept track of the past few days.



I've learned how to play one of my exam pieces for guitar. It's quite pretty, I like Baroque pieces. Have been listening to lots of Yo Yo Ma lately cos it's so nice and refreshing, and I'm getting kinda sick of having the Emo Song looping over and over in my head. So...so far I can play like 5.5 pieces on the guitar, and the "playing" mostly consists of strumming the chords. There's Tears In Heaven (but everyone can play this so it doesnt really count), half of When the Children Cry, Breakaway, My Immortal (the Emo Song of Emo Songs), Holiday and Boulevard of Broken Dreams.



Tomorrow I've gotta be up early. I hate getting up early, another reason I'm glad I'm in Poly and not JC. Though I've gotten much lazier over the months. >.< Will find some way to fix tagboard, since this layout doesn't seem to allow for comments.

Working on ACTS now. I've given up on scoring marks based on my horrible presentation skills and have decided on a different course of action. I'll just plaster my powerpoint with as many pretty pictures as I can and hope that no one notices that they can't hear what the hell I'm saying.



Have found some really pretty pictures of swirls. No idea what they have to do with wind instruments, but I'll think of something.



Went to school early today to work on recording stuff. In the end wasted almost all our time fighting with the DI box. Our keyboards refused to answer us and most of ourmy time was spent panicking and pissing off groupmates with my "we're doomed"-ing. In the end rushed guitar solo part in the last 15 minutes, so I suppose that's something. Fingers hurt like hell now.



Next week is our last week of our year as freshies. I don't feel much smarter than I did last year, except that I'm much better at bullshitting through assignments. Not that I want to bullshit all the time~♪

O rly??? I wonder if I can trade that in for 2 mil worth of anime and video games. Then I'll be able to get not only Twilight Princess, but a Wii, Xbox and PSes! Yay!!!

Had Theory test today. It wasn't too hard, since my piano teacher made me practice SATB writing like crazy for over 2 years. Microchecked it to make sure there weren't any parallel 5ths or 8ths. Went through rest of paper to make sure it was all clean, then left same time as MP. I can do papers really fast, but that speed is proportionate to the number of careless mistakes I always make. Which is probably why I got so many Bs in O levels.

Got a headache thinking about the 6th that came out in listening. Couldn't decide if C to E was major or minor (it probably wasn't those two notes but I used em for convenience's sake). And the popular music chords was a pain in the butt. Em(b5) apparently requires you to flatten the 5th. How was I supposed to know that??? It looked like freaking "B" to me!!!!!

Lost a few marks somewhere. Can't get full marks anymore. Upset cos I'm a perfectionist like that.

Practicing guitar now. Fingers have gone all soft over holidays. Very hard to bar.

One thing I know I have to improve are my lyrics-writing skills. I can only write emo poetry, and while that's fine and good for emopop, it gets old after a while. Getting kinda sick of writing about broken souls and broken hearts and stuff when my brain's the one that's really broken.

Today, unlike yesterday, was a good day. Managed to make more progress with my Midi assignment, and I wrote a song! Right now it's just a bunch of chords and some drums, but I'm really happy about the fact that I managed to cough up some lyrics. I haven't written emo poetry since I was 13!



....Well......it's not totally emo, I guess. I'm trying to move away from that genre a bit, cos that seems to be the easiest to write stuff for (for me, at least), and there are only so many times you can dress up the same tune, so IMO it's better to get all your bases covered. I was partially influenced by the R&Bness of my classmates' songs, since it seems to be everyone's favourite genre.



But lyrics! I did something productive today!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!
